This is the day that the OLPC laptops go on sale in American for two weeks at http://www.xogiving.org/. If you buy one, we will encourage you to bring it with you to Thailand in July.

December

1) Over the winter break, discuss this trip to Thailand with your parents. Make sure to consult with your physician regarding any immunizations you decide to get. Also consult with our own student health center and the U.S. Government's Center for Disease Control (CDC). Begin your first series of shots if necessary at this time..

2) Apply for a passport. This process can take several months.

Email me your teaching (block 1, block 2 or both blocks) and tour options (If you are teaching both blocks, are you going to come with us to Cambodia?).

Pay your non-refundable $150 deposit to reserve seat on airline. Note that this doesn't lock in the price of the ticket. It just holds a seat. You can pay the ticket in full if you like. You will need to pay this money to Carol Liu at U.S.A. Gateway Travel. You may need to have your passport number also. Be sure to tell Carol that you are with Dr. Howell's ESU group.

March 6 to 24
I travel to Thailand to help finalize the curriculum for this class. The palace has given us the rights to go to four different hill tribe villages for this projects. We plan to decide on which village to teach in at this time.
March 7

Make sure you pay the remaining amount you owe for your Airline ticket by today with Carol Liu and U.S.A. Gateway Travel. . Note: The price will continue to fluxuate until you pay it off in full. Plane ticket balances must be paid in full by today. The cost is in the neighborhood of $1645. This price has since gone up but the school is paying so that shouldn't be a problem. If you pay USA Gateway Travel for the Cambodia/ Bangkok option, the cost of the plane tickets goes up $600. ESU students can expect to get the plane ticket money reimbursed in the form of financial aid around May 19th after they enroll and pay their fees for the summer session.

Price for the Basic Trip: $2895 - $1645 (estimated plane ticket) = $1250
Price for Cambodian option: $800 (originally this was $950, but I found out that I can save money by purchasing the Cambodian tickets in Thailand. So drop $150 off my original estimate.)

April 7

Final deadline for your $500 deposit which should be paid to Dusti Howell. I will deposit it in the Emporia State Federal Credit Union.

Also, you should write a quick note of thanks to the Alumni Center. The Inez Alsop Memorial Grant Fund has donated $300 for you five students to travel to Thailand to study. That means each of your remaining fees will be lowered by $60.

May 7
Final deadline for remaining fees. Basic Trip = $750 - $60 = $690.

Those on the Cambodia option need to add $800 to this for a total of $1490.

In the student study abroad paperwork I'm submitting for your travel costs, we are including the estimated costs of plane tickets ($200.16)and visa costs ($36.00) for Laos and the costs of the plane tickets ($113.39) and visa and departure tax ($45) for Cambodia. It is possible that ESU MAY reimburse these fees as well. There is no guarantee but we will request it anyway and hope for the best.
